The River Hawks fell 11-10 to Midland in their first Tri-Rivers Conference meeting Tuesday night. Easton Valley fought back after falling down four runs in the fifth inning. The comeback fell just short though. EV closed the gap by scoring on a single and a ground out.
Easton Valley had its big scoring run in the fourth inning with the biggest blow coming from Ada Johnson who hit a double and brought in two. Claire Roe threw for six innings, striking out 12 and only walking three.
The River Hawks had 12 hits in the game. Rylie Gillen led EV with three hits in four at bats. Claire Roe, Ada Johnson, and Kendyl Driscoll each drove in one run for Easton Valley. Amber Hartung collected two hits for EV in four at bats. Bridge Moeller, Roslyn Klemme, Kendyl Driscoll and Amber Hartung each stole multiple bases for EV. In all, the River Hawks stole 13 bases.
In the second game, the River Hawks fell 5-13. Midland got on the board first going up 2-0. EV tied the game in the top of the second with the help of Elise Knutsen and her triple. She went on to steal home and score. Midland went on a scoring run in the fourth inning. That would be a lead that the River Hawks would struggle to come back on.
Ada Johnson started pitching for EV. She struck out one player and walked four. Claire Roe came in to finish for Easton Valley. She struck out two batters and walked none. Elise Knutsen led the team with three hits in three at bats. Rylie Gillen went 2 for 3 at the plate and led the team with one run batted in. Rylie, Ada, Roslyn, and Elise each stole multiple bases for the River Hawks. They had 11 stolen bases for the game.
This young team of one junior, three sophomores, three freshmen, and five 8th graders playing a Varsity schedule are coming along. Consistency and minimizing errors will be the key as the season goes on. The River Hawks play Alburnett on Thursday in a double-header at home. Game time is 5:00. Hope to see you there! Go Hawks!
