Todd Lorin Berg, 52, of Salix, Iowa passed away Tuesday, December 24, 2024, at his residence surrounded by his family, after a long battle with cancer.
A funeral service will be 10:00 A.M. Monday, December 30, 2024, at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Sloan, Iowa, with Reverend Richard Moore and Pastor Trent Baker, officiating. A live stream of the service will be posted on the Goslar Funeral Home website with Todd’s obituary. A visitation will be 5:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M. Sunday, December 29, 2024, at the church with a 7:00 P.M. prayer service. Arrangements are under the direction of the Goslar Funeral Home and Monuments, Onawa, Iowa.
Todd was born September 17, 1972, in Maquoketa, Iowa, the son of Lorin and Rojean (Keil) Berg. He grew up in Preston, Iowa and attended school there till Junior High. He attended Maquoketa Community School for two years and then the family moved to Mapleton, Iowa. He graduated from Maple Valley High School with the class of 1991. He continued his education at Ellsworth Community College in Iowa Falls and graduated with a construction management degree. Todd moved back to the Sloan/Salix area in the summer of 1992.
Todd Berg and Sylvia Hinrickson were united into marriage April 9, 1994 at the Soldier Lutheran Church, Soldier, Iowa. Two children were born to this union, Kirstin and Kody.
Todd had a passion for building houses and built many over the years. In 1992 he worked for Wegher Construction and started his own business called Berg Construction in 1997. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, working, building, and watching his grandchildren.
Todd loved everything about wrestling. He was an assistant wrestling coach for many years starting in 2002 to present. He also helped coach little kids wrestling for many years. Todd loved his family very much and will be missed by many people in the community.
Survivors include his loving wife of thirty years, Sylvia Berg of Salix, Iowa; two children, Kirstin (Austin) Granatowicz of Sioux City, Iowa and Kody (Taylor) Berg of Salix, Iowa; four grandchildren, Brecken, Blakely, Lyla, and Briar; his parents, Rojean (Dan) Scott of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa and Lorin (Phyllis) Berg of Preston, Iowa; father-in-law, Charles Hinrickson of Castana, Iowa; siblings, Jeff (Jill) Berg of Sloan, Iowa, Doug (Deb) Scott of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Chris (Katie) Scott of Sloan, Iowa, Amy (Justin) Ringler of Grinnell, Iowa, and Staci (Kevin) Crawford of Onawa, Iowa; brothers-in-law, Scott (Donna) Hinrickson of Climbing Hill, Iowa, Stanley (Brenda) Hinrickson of Smithland, Iowa, and Kent “Buzz” (Lisa) Hinrickson of Battle Creek, Iowa; along with many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Greg Berg, mother-in-law, Peggy Hinrickson; paternal grandparents, Ervin and Goldie (Henricksen) Berg, maternal grandparents, Eldon and Leola (Mohr) Keil; nephew, Ashton Scott; uncle, Roger Keil; and cousin, Kolynn Keil.
