Sabula’s big summer celebration, Island City Days, is set for Friday and Saturday, August. 1st and 2nd.
Friday night’s activities start with the parade at 6 p.m., with the theme “Let’s Have a Ball.” Parade line-up starts at Homeport at 5:30 p.m., turns at the Sabula Fire Station, and goes down Lake Street.
Joann Aguirre is the grand marshal for the 2025 event.
Joann has been a proud member of the Sabula community for 53 years. She’s raised 6 wonderful children; Larry, Lynn, Kim, Curt (deceased), Rod, and JoEllen. She is a longtime member of Calvary Lutheran Church, and you can often find her enjoying bingo, a good game of euchre, her daily walks, and—of course—keeping a watchful eye on the ice cream shop.
We are honored to celebrate Joann as she leads the Island City Days parade this year. Make sure to give her a big wave and cheer as she goes by!
Following the parade will be the crowning of the cutest pet contest of Island City Days. The cutest pet winners will be announced after the parade. Music and food and countless activities, events and vendors will be available located along the water.
Kicking off on Saturday morning Saturday, August 2nd will be the delicious pancake breakfast held at the Fire Station hosted this year by the Sabula EMS and Fire Departments. During the breakfast will be a vendor show and a public art show displayed at the library.
After the breakfast at 9:00 a.m. a 5K run and Kids races will kick off and be held at the baseball diamond that morning. If you are looking to still participate in the 5K or the kids races there is time to still sign up now through that AM.
Later visitors can come gather and watch along Lake Street for the performance of Ski Bellevue Water Ski Team at 4:00 p.m. The water show will be followed by live music with a traditional fireworks display at dusk.
