On Monday, July 7th, the River Hawks took on the Cal/Wheat Warriors in Calamus in regional play. The Hawks started out strong keeping the Warriors scoreless in the first two innings and then again in the fourth, sixth, and seventh. In the third and fifth innings some fielding errors along with some miscommunication wreaked havoc for EV. When it was finished, the River Hawks lost 0 to 7. Cal/Wheat went on to play Central City on that Wednesday, beating them 6 to 3. They then advanced on to play Wapsie Valley, where they lost 10 to 5. Wapsie Valley will play Don Bosco on Monday, the 14th, to decide the Regional Champion.

Rylie Gillen and Claire Roe led the Hawks in hitting with one a piece. Rylie also had two stolen bases. Elise Knutsen threw one runner out at second attempting to steal. Claire had three strikeouts for the night, some coming at key moments. The outfield did a stellar job as Ada Johnson caught 4 balls, Amber Hartung caught 1 (a foul ball to rob the hitter of another opportunity), Kedley Holdgrafer and Sophia Roe caught 1 a piece as well. The infield added to the defense with Rylie making 2 outs, Kendyl Driscoll and Roslyn Klemme each contributed 1 to the mix. Bridgette Moeller had to make an early exit from the game after playing some tough defense at second base. A collision with another player resulted in injury that did not allow her to return. What’s next for the River Hawks, some rest, as well as our team banquet Thursday night, stay tuned for a write-up of all awards earned. Until then, 1,2,3……Go Hawks!
