100. 50. and 25.  What do these numbers have in common?  They are the anniversary years of the various stages and locations of the libraries in Preston.  And the Preston Public Library will be hosting an open house this Saturday, November 16th during library hours- 9AM to 3PM.  At 1PM there will be a Powerpoint presentation showing the library and its activities and will discuss the history of its three locations. there will be time for questions and discussion. Many will remember that the library was located in the east half of what is now Hartig Drugs (50 years) before it moved into the tri-plex building that houses the current library, city hall and police station (25 years), but few are aware that there was a library in a home near Peppermint Park that was designed and organized in 1924/25. (100 years).  The library staff and board members are searching for more about this early library history.  Refreshments will be available and there will be drawing held at the end of the day.  The theme of the day is “Give Thanks for Our Preston Public Library” as the Thanksgiving season is upon us and we are fortunate to have a library that visitors from outside the area have described as quaint, feeling of home, and impressive to have all that we have available for a community of our size.

A library is more than books- it serves as a community center and a hub of activities and projects.

Many generations utilize the public library.  The beauty of a public library is that it serves individuals from birth 100 +
