The Preston United Methodist Church has a new pastor, The Rev. Cephas Davis.  He is also pastor at the First United Methodist Church in Maquoketa, where he and his wife Phyllis moved in July of this year.

Originally from Liberia, West Africa, Pastor Cephas felt called to the ministry at age 17.   He served as a missionary, and has worked with street youth, orphans, and child soldiers.  He has extensive experience as a youth pastor and as associate pastor at churches in Liberia and in the United States.

While serving in Texas, he earned a BA in Religion and a Master of Divinity degree and married Phyllis.  He has served churches in Ames and Des Moines.  During that time, he earned a Master of Dispute Resolution from Pepperdine School of Law and an MA in Public Administration from Drake University.

Pastor Cephas is an ordained elder of the United Methodist Church and has become a U.S. citizen.  In his spare time, he plays pool and chess and loves cooking.   Most of all, he loves to travel.  He has visited 45 of the 50 U.S. states and over 30 countries around the world.   While he and Phyllis enjoy travel, he says that above all he is “a humble servant of Christ who loves telling the Jesus story.”

Pastor Cephas tells the Jesus story every Sunday at 10:30 a.m. at the Preston United Methodist Church and at 9:00 a.m. at First United Methodist in Maquoketa.  We encourage anyone to come and hear his message.
