Dear Editor,
We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, ensure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.
This is the Preamble to America’s most important document, The United States Constitution. Constitution Week is held annually September 17th-23rd to commemorate the history, importance and the signing of this document on September 17th, 1787. Church bells rang out on this date in Philadelphia after the signing and to this day, Bells Across America are rang to celebrate and observe Constitution Week.
This celebration of the Constitution was started by the daughters of the American Revolution and in 1955, the DAR petitioned Congress to set aside this specific week every year to be dedicated to the observance of Constitution Week. The U.S. Congress adopted this resolution and President Eisenhower, in 1956, signed this observance into public law.
Celebrate our Freedom by observing Constitution Week…ring a bell. Read the Constitution…educate yourself and your children.
