The Jackson County Historical Society will hold its 2024 HERITAGE DAY EVENTS Sunday, November 3, 2024, from 3:00PM – 7:00PM in the Pearson Building on the Fairgrounds in Maquoketa, IA.
Special event for the day will be a 3:00 PM program in the County Museum presented by ROBERT FOSTER, an artillery expert from the Rock Island Arsenal. Bob will discuss the Spanish American War cannon in the JCHS collection. Many will remember this cannon as for many years it stood guard in front of the Sagers Museum at the entrance to the Maquoketa Caves State
Park. This great artifact has now been fully restored and will be on display at the event. At 3:45 PM, the 2024 selectee, will be inducted into the Jackson County Historical Society’s Hall of Fame. Each year the names of persons who have made noteworthy and lasting contributions to this area are submitted, reviewed by a committee, and one or more are then selected for induction. This year, L. L. Long, who for many years served as the Jackson County Superintendent of Schools has been chosen. The presentation will be made by his daughter, Linda Long Tubbs.
The Heritage Dinner will be held across the way – in Janssen Hall. Serving will begin at 4:00PM and continue until 7:00PM. The dinner will be prepared by Jeronimo’s in Springbrook and feature a choice of beef or baked chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, veggies and salads, dinner rolls, dessert and coffee or lemonade. Carry-outs will be available – call 563-249-1776 or 563-652-5020 with your choices, we will bring it to your car. Tickets are just $15 in advance; $17 at the door and are available from any JCHS members or either museum. There will be a silent auction in Janssen Hall.
We hope that you will join us for this interesting program, Hall of Fame Ceremony and a great meal. We appreciate everyone’s support for this important fundraiser for the Jackson County Historical Society.
