by Assistant Coach Beth McNeil for the Preston Times
The Easton Valley girls golf team capped off another historic season by clinching their second consecutive Class 1A state championship at the Iowa State Girls Golf Meet, held May 29-30 at the American Legion Golf Course in Marshalltown.
The River Hawks delivered a performance nearly identical to their 2024 championship run, winning the state title by a commanding 29 strokes. Their round one team score was 344 and on day two they carded a 346, for a tournament total of 690. Individual medalists included 9th place Addie Fier (85-84 =169) and 10th place Hadley Farrell (84-86 = 170). With a unique coaching duo (Head Coach Jordan Davis is the niece of Asst Coach Beth McNeil), the team has a culture of excellence, composure, and team unity that has become the hallmark of Easton Valley girls golf. It has been an incredible journey with this group and to win state again, and do it in the same dominant fashion, speaks volumes about their talent, leadership, and work ethic.
Among the EV team were four standout seniors (Addison Farrell, Hadley Farrell, Alia Schmidt, Jenna Roling), whose leadership and experience were instrumental in guiding them to victory. Their calm under pressure and commitment to team goals have left a lasting legacy and set the bar high for future teams. Next year, EV will have Addie Fier, Sadie Roling, Kendyl Driscoll, and some new faces to take on those roles and continue the strong program.
We extend our sincere gratitude to all the parents, community members, Preston Valley golf Course, and the Fier family for your unwavering support of our golf program. Your encouragement, time, and generosity have made a lasting impact. A special thank you to the Alex Behr Memorial for their meaningful donation. Your support honors Alex’s memory in a way that continues to inspire and uplift our team. We are truly grateful.
The team and coaches would like to extend a huge THANK YOU to all who supported the girls in so many ways. Whether you gave a donation, offered words of encouragement, attended the welcome home caravan, sent a message, or came to watch, it is all very much appreciated! There are so many to personally thank, and we hate to miss anyone, but a special thanks to the supportive parents and families for all they do. Another thanks to the Preston police, Jackson County police, Corey Driscoll, and the Preston fire department for organizing the caravan to welcome and recognize the girls for their hard work and outstanding accomplishments! It’s GREAT to be EV…GO RIVER HAWKS!!!
