by Assistant Coach Beth McNeil for the Preston Times

The Easton Valley boys golf team made history by qualifying for the 2025 Iowa Class 1A State Golf Tournament, held May 27-28 at South Hills Golf Course in Waterloo. This marked the first state appearance for the River Hawks, a significant achievement for the program.

Competing against 12 teams, Easton Valley shot 349 the first day and 351 on day two for a team total of 700 to secure 11th place. While they did not place among the top contenders, their participation at the state level was a notable accomplishment. Next year, EV will certainly miss the scoring and leadership of the 3 seniors: Nolan Sandholdt, Justin Weispfenning, and Jeremy Weispfenning. However, they are looking forward to continuing play by Keagan Lee, Houston Holdgrafer, Zach Heister, Easton Rathje, and Bentlee Bredekamp.

The EV boys and coaches would like to thank the terrific parents and all who supported the team throughout the season and during our post-season play. They also appreciate all that the Preston Valley Golf Course and Fier family do for them, both during the season and off season. There is a very special thank you that goes to the Behr family for the generous Alex Behr Memorial donation given to help with costs during the trip to the state tournament. The coaches and team couldn’t do it without all of you! Thanks again to so many for believing in them and continuing to support the team and the program.

The team and coaches would like to extend a huge THANK YOU to all who supported the boys in so many ways. Whether you gave a donation, offered words of encouragement, attended the welcome home caravan, sent a message, or came to watch, it is all very much appreciated! There are so many to personally thank, and we hate to miss anyone, but a special thanks to the supportive parents and families for all they do. Another thanks to the Preston police, Jackson County police, Corey Driscoll, and the Preston fire department for organizing the caravan to welcome and recognize the boys for their hard work and outstanding accomplishments! It’s GREAT to be EV…GO RIVER HAWKS!!
