Bryce Miller Claims Top Prize in ‘$50,000 Super Crossword’ Game
A Jackson County man said he had to check his lottery ticket repeatedly before he finally believed he won a $50,000 prize.
“I thought it was $500 and I checked it again and I thought it was $5,000,” said Bryce Miller of St. Donatus. “Then I went over it 20 times with an ink pen.”
Miller inspected the ticket over and over after reaching the top prize level on his “$50,000 Super Crossword” ticket. But his meticulous checking still wasn’t enough proof.
“I wasn’t quite sure, but I was pretty sure,” Miller said.
He returned to Kalmes Restaurant and Catering, 100 N. Main St. in St. Donatus, where he bought the ticket, and scanned it at the lottery terminal. The machine verified Miller’s win, and reality finally hit him that he won a $50,000 prize.
Miller, 59, claimed his prize Tuesday at the lottery’s regional office in Cedar Rapids. He hopes to put his winnings toward buying a home and a motorcycle.
