Calvary Lutheran Church in Sabula, Ia will host its next community Blood Drive on Saturday, August 16, 2025, from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. in the church basement.

These blood drives offer more than just a chance to give back—donors are treated to a homemade breakfast prepared by longtime volunteer Sandra Kempter. Sandra has been organizing local blood drives since June 15, 2011, with the first two held at the Sabula VFW before moving to City Hall. She eventually found a permanent and welcoming home for the events in the church basement.

Over the years, Sandra has hosted an impressive 65 blood drives, resulting in a total of 849 donations. The record for a single drive was set in 2017 with 26 donations. Through it all, Sandra sees this ministry as a gift from God—her way of serving others with the talents and hospitality God has entrusted to her.

So, roll up your sleeves, bring a friend, and come hungry—let’s beat the record and make it a morning to remember!
