Wetland Stomp at Hurstville Center

Wondering what’s alive in the wetland? Get your feet wet and explore the marsh behind the Hurstville Interpretive Center, Maquoketa, on Saturday, July 26 at 1:00 PM. Nets, ID guides, and buckets will be provided. All you need to bring is your curiosity! Make sure to wear shoes and clothing that can get wet and muddy. We will also learn more about the importance of wetlands and the role they play to keep Iowa healthy for animals and people. All ages welcome at this fun and free, family-friendly event! Upcycled Denim Totes Workshop

Sometimes our clothes don’t fit anymore, or they get stained or ripped, and it’s a shame to get rid of them while they still have some life left. Luckily, you can save your old clothing from the landfill by transforming the material into a tote bag! Join us at the Hurstville Interpretive Center, Maquoketa, on Saturday, August 2 at 1:00 PM for instructions and demonstrations.

Participants should bring 1-2 shirts and 2-3 pairs of jeans that you’re ready to have some fun with, and we’ll lead the way. This project is beginner-friendly, but some prior experience using a sewing machine is recommended. Some sewing machines will be available to share; or bring your own. Other materials, such as pins, thread, and scissors, will be provided. Registration is required and class size is limited.

For more information or to register, contact Jackson County Conservation at (563) 652-3783 or [email protected].
