Members of the local 4-H and FFA chapters are preparing their animals and projects for the upcoming local show to be held this weekend at the Miles Threshers Grounds during the Great River Threshers event. Many animals and projects will be presented and judged to help get the students prepared for the Jackson County Fair competition and then hopefully the Iowa State Fair. Many of the students look forward to everyone coming and supporting the projects and animals they have worked with throughout the course of the year.
On Sunday, July 13th, the local show will be held at the Miles Threshers Grounds and is free and open to the public. The judging will begin at 11:00 a.m. The livestock that will be judged will include: rabbits, dogs, poultry, other small animals, horses, bottle/bucket calves, swine, breeding heifers, sheep, and cow calf and market beef.
The grounds building will be busy with indoor judging as well at 8:30 a.m. All types of crafts and other projects will be judged and set out to display for the public. Many of these projects include drawings and paintings, wood working, gardening, sewing, cooking and baking, and photography projects just to name a few.
The local show and county fair are great ways the youth are able to display and showcase their hard work on their projects as well as receive feedback and recognition.
Let’s fill the bleachers, barns, and buildings to show these kids that their hard work doesn’t go unnoticed and because of them, the future of agriculture and leadership is in good hands. It’s a great opportunity to celebrate our community’s talented youth and their amazing projects they have worked on as well as supporting our future leaders.
