On Monday, the 16th, EV took on Ed-Co in a very rainy game. Claire Roe started pitching for the River Hawks and managed three innings before an injury that she’s been battling all season got the best of her. Before coming out of the game, she had struck out three batters. Ada Johnson finished the game, striking out one batter. The River Hawks big highlight in this tough match-up was when Rylie Gillen turned a double play in the game. Ed-Co came out ahead winning 10-0.

The second game (every game is a double-header) was rough on the River Hawks without Claire Roe’s bat and defense. Ada Johnson struck out three batters. Kendyl Driscoll went 2 for 2 at the plate to lead EV in hits. Elise Knutsen and Anabelle Gebhart each had one hit apiece. The final score was Ed-Co 16 to EV’s 1.

On Thursday, the 19th, the River Hawks took on Marquette. Again, they would be without starting pitcher Claire Roe. Ada Johnson stepped up to pitch both games for the night, a tough task for an 8th grader, but she handled it with ease and grace. In the first game she struck out four batters. Although Claire was not able to pitch for the night, she was able to hit. She went 1 for 2 at the plate to lead the River Hawks. The final score put Marquette at 10, EV at 0.

Ada Johnson struck out three batters in the second game. She also went 1 for 1 at the plate, which included a RBI. Ros Klemme and Elise Knutsen each collected two hits for EV. Claire and Ada each stole multiple bases for the River Hawks. Overall, EV stole five bases in the game. The final score, Marquette 16, EV 3. The River Hawks take on Maquoketa Valley Monday, the 22nd away, and East Buchanan on Thursday, the 26th away.
