Lloyd Peter Michel, 90 years old, of Preston, Iowa, passed away on Monday, February 24, 2025. A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, March 7, 2025, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, in Preston. Visitation will take place from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., at the church, prior to Mass. Interment will take place at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, in Preston.
Lloyd shared 67 years of marriage with Waneda Marie Schmidt, and they welcomed four children: David (Barb), Carla (Keith), Darwin, and Daryl (David); five grandchildren: Jamie, Brett (Margaret), Tara (Tyler), Branden (Kayla), and Keaton (Brooke); and eleven great-grandchildren: Aubrey, Ava, Hadley, Callen, Brooks, Cole, Mollie, Harrison, McKenzie, Jackson, and Macy.
Lloyd was born the son of Frank and Susan (Kloft) Michel, and he was the last surviving member of his 12-member family. In 1957, just months after he and Waneda were married, Lloyd was drafted into the United States Army, where he served with pride and honor, from 1957 to 1959, deploying to Germany. Those who knew Lloyd well would likely characterize him as friendly, candid, family oriented, and hardworking. Hardworking, because he didn’t retire from fulltime work until he was 82 years old and then returned to work part-time for several more years, in the quarry business. For many family members and friends, he was a model for being relentless and driven!
Aside from spending time with family and/or working, Lloyd liked to play cards, have a beer or more with friends, go to the casino, watch gameshows and the Chicago Cubs, and spend time with Millie and Jake (two special family dogs). He was a member of St. Joseph s Catholic Church, and the Preston American Legion and Amvets, respectively.
Lloyd is preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Susan; many in-laws; and his siblings, Leona Schmidt, Leo Michel, Marie Banowetz, Lillian Trenkamp, Alvin Michel, Harold Michel, Floyd Michel (twin), Clyde Michel, and Algean Michel.
