We started off with Springville who brings a very experienced team. We battled hard the 1st quarter and was down 9-17 after the 1st quarter. In the 2nd quarter their man to man defense affected our shooting and were able to only score 6 points and found ourselves down at 1/2 time 15-41. The 3rd quarter was a lot of the same as we were only able to score 6 points, our kids kept battling, in the end the score was EV 32-70. Easton 12, Stephen 6, Callan 5, Justin 3, Nolan, Kyler and James 2.
Friday we traveled to Cal-Wheatland to play a team that is competing for the top half of the Conference. We played pretty equal in the 1st quarter, with 1 minute left the score was tied, during that 1 minute Cal-Wheat was able to score 6 unanswered point and we were down by 6. In the 2nd quarter they had a kid get hot and EV was missing and we found ourselves down, Ev 19-37 at 1/2. I told the kids at 1/2 time, we needed to make more of a inside presence and get to the free throw line. I was happy with our effort as we did get to the line 20 times in the 2nd half and made 16 free throws. In the end we lost 52-80. Easton 16, Justin 12, Nolan 10, Keagan 6, Jeremy 5, Stephen 2 and Callan 1.
On Saturday we had a quick turn around and played at the Manny’s shootout at 10am in Mount Carroll. We played Stockton who was a team that was very patient with the ball. Our team was sluggish at first but still played hard enough to be just down by 3 at the 1/2. In the 2nd half we got down by as many as 11, but came back to tie it 47-47 and forced overtime by a big a big 3 point bucket by Callan Messrich. In OT we just didn’t make enough shots and had to many turnovers and lost by 3. EV 54-57 Easton 12, Callan and Keagan 11, Jeremy and Nolan 8 and Justin 4.
This week we have 2 home games starting on Tuesday with Midland and Friday with North Cedar. Saturday night we go to Fulton to play in the Eric Ottens shootout. We play Fulton at 7:30pm.
