To the Editor:
I poured my heart and soul into this campaign so, needless to say, I am disappointed with the results. I would like to express my deep appreciation for the great people who worked so hard in this campaign and for their incredible support, encouragement, and friendship. I also wish to thank the many wonderful people I enjoyed visiting with while on the campaign trail in Jones and Jackson counties who remind me of how blessed we are to live in this beautiful corner of Iowa. While there were other activities I would have preferred at this point in my life, I felt called upon to run for the Iowa House due to my deep concerns over the direction our state has been heading in recent years and the extremism and arrogance that often accompanies one party control – be it Republican or Democrat. Although our campaign ran 10 points ahead of the national Democratic ticket and carried Anamosa and Monticello, that was not enough to overcome the impressive Trump landslide throughout Jones and Jackson counties. I was, however, gratified that in these highly partisan times, over 1,700 voters in Jones and Jackson counties made the decision to split their ballot and vote for both Trump and for me – truly putting people before party! Now that the election is over, whether you voted for Trump or Harris, it is time to come together as a nation and pray that the upcoming four years will bring peace, prosperity, and understanding for all.
Sincerely,
Andy McKean
