Dear Editor,

Iowa Helps Hurricane Helene Victims

My name is Nancy Kieffer, and I am reaching out to share information about a group that I have organized, called Iowa Helps Hurricane Helene Victims. Our mission is to supply aid to those affected by the devastating impacts of Hurricane Helene in the area near Asheville in North Carolina.

In partnership with an organization called Hurricane Helene Veterans Recovery our goal is to provide timely assistance to those in desperate need. My connection to this organization is my sister Mary Jo who is a veteran and dedicated volunteer who is actively working to help those who have lost so much.

At this time, the most effective form of assistance we can provide is through monetary donations. These contributions will allow us to quickly provide essential items without the logistical challenges associated with physical donations. Many individuals are currently living in tents or on the ground, as their homes have been destroyed.

One immediate need is for picnic tables. Beyond providing a surface for meals, these tables offer dignity, hope, and a sense of community to those affected. Due to their size and weight, monetary donations are crucial for purchasing and delivering these items. A donation of $150 can provide one picnic table, but any amount will be deeply appreciated.

We are in the process of establishing drop-off locations for monetary donations, with initial site at Bellevue State Bank and Oly s in Preston.

Currently, the priority is to provide essential cold weather items, including heaters, sleeping bags, blankets, boots, socks, mittens, and hard-shell suitcases to protect personal belongings. We have created an Amazon list for these items, which can be accessed through the link below. In Gift or Note Option you can add Iowa Helps Hurricane Helene Victims.
For updates and further information about the organizations involved, please visit their Facebook pages: Hurricane Helene Veterans Recovery.

If you wish to contribute via Venmo, please use @Heather-Suttles (last four digits: 5472). Kindly label your donation as a gift to avoid deductions.
Check out our Facebook page at Iowa Helps Hurricane Helene Victims for information and updates.

If you would like to help locally in setting up collection location in your area, or want to offer help with anything please contact me by our Facebook page.

The stories I have heard from Mary Jo about the devastation in these small towns are truly heartbreaking. I believe that together, we can extend our compassion and support to these innocent victims of this disaster.

Thank you very much for considering this opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those in need!

Nancy Kieffer (Preston, IA)
