Mark Kilburg, event chairperson had the following to say about the competition. 1st Annual Westside Warrior event a success! We could not have asked for a better weather condition for the 1st Annual Westside Warrior. It was a beautiful day, and our competitors really put on a show! Our goal with this competition has always been to 1) Make people aware of our unique FitCore Extreme Obstacle Course – Preston. 2) Have fun watching participants compete. 3) Promote Preston and all our small town has to offer during the annual Fireman’s Celebration. I believe we accomplished this and much more. The first time you do any event you learn a lot. Based on the amount of fun had by all, we are already looking forward to planning the next event. Rumor has it, the next event may be held as soon as this Fall! So, if you missed out on this one, you might get another chance to compete this year. Spectators were treated to displays of athleticism and grit by all our competitors. Lyons Tae Kown Do, from Cliton, IA brought a team of students, and this is what they had to say about the competition. “Today, some of our gym team had a fun, friendly competition courtesy of the Westside Warrior Competition in Preston. If you have never been to this course, you are missing out! This course isn’t easy, but don’t let that intimidate you; you don’t have to complete each obstacle. This competition was the best way to spend a beautiful Saturday morning with some of the best people around! We cheered each other on, sweat a little, bled a little, gave it our all, and had a lot of laughs! Be watching for the next one and join us! Big thanks to #fitcoreprestonia for hosting this event. Until next time. An event like this does not happen without the collective efforts of many people. Thank you to all the competitors, committee members, volunteers and those providing entertainment and food. All of you are much appreciated! Female age 12-17 winner was Allyssa Perry, with a time of 6:00. Female age 18+ winner was Dawn Hughes, with a time of 7:04. Male age 12-17 winner was Thad Bredekamp, with a time of 2:06. Male age 18+ winner was Brad Petersen, with a time of 1:54. The theme of the day was FUN. Spread the word, our Fitcore Course is something special, our goal is to grow this event each year!”

Thad Bredekamp hangs by his fingertips as he scales the wall near the end of the course.  The low green bars were the ones that were used by most of the competitors but because Thad is so tall it was to his advantage to take the high route, so he didn’t have to spend energy bending his legs as much to keep them from touching the ground.

Cory Krogman chose to go first and set a high bar as he flew through the course.  Here he leapt to the webbing and crawled underneath making sure to touch both ends of the rope web.

The ladies in the competition weren’t to be out down and showed their strength and agility as they navigated the course.

Hanging from the edge of the plank which is simultaneously moving back and forth and swinging side to side.  and then having to jump and grab the next plank.  This demands intense concentration and upper muscle strength.
